To anyone here with an opinion on STK (granted they are more on the tape side, but they definitely are at an interesting point right now):

Well Lawrence suggested I ask this on this thread since I asked him on the APM thread as part of a different response (OK, knowing that I still own some of the APM I bought in 1994 should show that I am NOT a source of wisdom). STK failed to meet expectations for the past quarter by a large margin and the warning came rather late. The stock had been wandering around in the $30s and promptly dropped below $20. Recently it seems to have steadied around the $19-20 level. Listening to their recent conference call, they took the blame for poor execution and for production problems on one of their tape drive products. To me it sounded like the production problems were licked and that orders for their tape systems looked good for the next few quarters, so that it sounds like they should recover from here. The analysts on the call were remarkably friendly considering the size of the shortfall and seemed not to be worried about STK getting things back together. STK clearly stated that they wouldn't equal earnings/share estimated previously, but were certainly optimistic that things were going to be back on track quickly.

As a lurker on this thread I get a lot of useful information, so I'm curious what anybody here knows about STK's situation. I have been buying both before this big drop and after, so I've already convinced myself that it's worth owning, but I'm trying to decide just how much more I would like to buy at this point.

thanks in advance for any opinions,
Donald

LT,

The ones futzing with Integral. And I guess I shouldn't be so cavalier about them that I forget their name. John Squires (co founder Conner, Miniscribe) is heading it up. Rumor is that Taiwanese large is behind them as they covet a "nationalised" source of the 2.5 inch drive.

Best,
Stitch
