H. James, I think where Amazon is trading right now it is just that - a gamble, not an investment.

When it had a 400 mil market cap, people said it was an unknown commodity and was overvalued.

When it matched and quickly surpassed Barnes and Noble and Borders at 2 bil. cap they said "how can you compare an Internet company with these brick & mortar giants?, short it".

When it reached over 30 bil. cap. it became accepted as a legitimate company worthy of that valuation.

Now it's back at 20+ bil.

We are in unchartered territory, nobody has ever seen stocks fluctuating at billions of dollars a day until very recently. That instability alone makes it hard to justify the current valuation, even given AMZN's great growth success. Either the other second-tier e-commerce retailers are way under-valued or AMZN is way over-valued. What other conclusions can be drawn?
