Heinz, Don't you believe for one minute that just because a person lives in a Western democracy, that they do not put their life in danger by voicing their honest opinions. Perhaps the oppressive forces at work here are not as obvious as they are in certain parts of the world and to a certain extent, used to be behind the old "iron curtain", but they are at work nevertheless. I guess you have'nt heard of all the threats made to the political enemies of Clinton for example, or the long list of "suicides" and "accidental deaths" among his opponents and or acquaintances. This is no longer the same country I grew up in way back in the 1950's and 60's, not by a long shot, no matter how much we may wish it to be so. It does not make me happy to say that, but I'm not going to hide my head in the sand. If "we" are going to bomb for humanitarian reasons, where is our bombing in Africa? Or China? (regarding Tibet) So do we now pick and choose which races to save? Is one more worthy of saving than another? I don't think so, so when "we" put on that "policeman's uniform", "we" had better be prepared to save everyone, or else look like the hypocrites that "we" truly are. As for the necessity for Russia and China to take strong measures to halt the bombing insanity, now we can see just how valuable a balance of power is around the world. A weakened Russia, with a navy that was'nt even prepared for crisis, allows the only world's "superpower" (you may as well say world dictator) to act like there are no or very little consequences to being out of control as we are now in Iraq and Yugoslavia. Normally, I am almost never with China on most policy issues, but in this case, I must side firmly with them, and say that I am deeply ashamed at this point of my country's misguided actions, which have only succeeded so far in making things much worse for all concerned, including the Kosovars.
