*** My New DREAM MACHINE *** for daytrading

Message 9267936

Unicorn Systems,(Pete), is going beyond what I expected
in a building me my computer. Because some of the parts
were hard to get, he calls me each time he recieves them.

The new 9.1g 7200rpm Western Digital HD is smokin' fast !
He got his shippment in the other day and tested them
out and he was impressed both visually and on the
tests he ran it on. He said its extremely quiet. These
HD are very dificult to find, but he went overboard in
getting one...why? Because I wanted it in my Dream Machine.

Many of you have inquired about having one built.
Let's see how mine turns out. Suppose to get it on Friday.
Because it will be running 6 monitors (6 ATI video cards)
and he wants to make sure the computer is kept really cool,
he spent a lot of time finding the newest stuff out for
cooling the case. When he gets mine up and going, he's going
to put a 'Dream Machine' up on his web site so people can
click to order and he'll have them already built so that
it won't take as long. I'm sure it will look similar to mine :-)
but you build it the way you want!

Here's mine:

>>Does the secondary NT boot, the one Clarence wants to install..the
alternate NT boot that you referred to in your machines..have to go in
a second partition? or can it go in a second folder on the C drive?

First I apologize for not getting back. Sorry, too much
$%^%^^&* w**k. Apologize also for the four-letter words
(e.g., w**k).

The secondary NT for this purpose can go anywhere. It assumes
no hardware failures. You COULD put it on a second drive
to protect against certain types of hardware and software
failures, but IMO that would be a lot of trouble for minuscule
return.

HOWEVER, there's no bar to having it on another drive, nor
any particular downside that I can see, so you might opt
to do that for a number of reasons. You do get a slight
marginal extra protection. FWIW, both my primary and backup
NTs are on the same physical drive. This may raise a flag
for others <g>.

I know that's not quite what you asked. As for another
directory in the same partition versus another partition,
I have one comment: The only advantage of another partition
that I know about is that you can keep the same name for
the NT partition, which you can't if it's on the same partition.
I have not had success booting a cloned NT from a different
directory name, though you're supposed to be able to do that.
Whether this is something stupid I've done or a more general
problem I have not been able to figure out. I haven't spent
a heck of a lot of time on it, though.
