I monitor my Free Memory using System Monitor (sysmon.exe in C:\Windows) and have a little trick I use to bump it up when it gets too low. With ie5 I am constantly having to bump it, whereas with ie4 I could get it to stay at a decent level fairly easily.

Bump method: Create a folder and put about 10 full-size bitmaps in it. When your memory gets below 4MB free, open the bitmap folder and open and close one bitmap. Then open and close 2 bitmaps, ... until you have as much free memory as you want (if you get too greedy it won't work as well).

I have 64MB RAM on my machine and when I bump up my free memory I usually take it up to about 20MB and then it drifts down from there. More-so with ie5.
