DD--- I thought you were specifically challenging my characterization of Chomsky as a Leftist. Thus, "comments backed up"--- these are all pro- Chomsky sites, and they call him a "libertarian socialist", an "anarchist", and in other ways confirm my characterization as merely true...

DD--- A compressed version of our exchange:

N:Long ago I read some of Chomsky's stuff, when I was a leftist. I thought he was a bit of a
kook then, so I gave up on him.

D:Ah well - I don't think leftist is the right word unless you apply it in a generic sense to
anyone who is opposed to the official line - or the establishment position?? - which is the
reason treads like this are so valuable. d

N:No, Chomsky is a Leftist. That is an accurate representation of his political allegiances:
bad old World Capitalism, put- upon peasants; all Third World nationalists are liberators,
all other nationalists are fascists; the usual shtick...

D:I suspect you can't back up those comments - but they sound good! d

N:Comments backed up!

An anarchist and libertarian socialist, Chomsky first came to prominence in
the political realm opposing the U.S. invasion of South Vietnam. Outspoken against all
abuses of power, Chomsky is a particularly astute critic of U.S. foreign policy. Chomsky's
analysis of the media illustrates the compliant nature of the information industries to the
ideological objectives and imperatives of governments and corporate elites.

He has authored over 30 political books dissecting such
issues as U.S. interventionism in the developing world, the political economy of human
rights and the propaganda role of corporate media.

D:That was quick - thanks - although I'm not sure of the meaning of 'comments backed up'?
There were a few sprinkling references to 'left' - but in the context of this discussion the
important thing is that he is a dissident writer - in other words he dissents from the official
line which is foisted upon us
