I would not be surprised by any stunts that may be pulled off by Compaq right before Dell reports its quarterly earnings. They found out that it worked before why not try it again since Compaq thinks that the public is stupid as are many stock analysts.

CPQ (to their credit) seems to be mounting a media blitz to support their stock price.

But it won't fix their problems.

Some criticise MD for not mounting similar efforts to support Dell's price during market pullbacks, but I would rather have the reality of good management rather the illusion, which is what you'll get from CPQ.
