I am encouraged to read your statement, "There is a definite pickup in Taiwan, and now Samsung has dropped the other shoe..." All the scattered pieces of 'news' suggest an imminent pickup in business for the chip equipment companies.

I think that alot of investors are now sitting on their hands while they wait for guidance from AMAT. They are due to announce after the market close of the 18th. As I recall, AMAT's guidance propelled the group skyward in Oct. of '96, when they cited improving conditions. If AMAT provides positive guidance on the 18th, and history repeats itself, this group may move sooner than August.

Does anyone know of a Web site which provides price quotes for silicon wafers? It would be interesting to track the trend of such prices along with other indicators such as the book-to-bill ratio.
