Sherry, thanks so much for your bush/flower recommendations! I will certainly check them all out. I had already planned on getting at least one rhododendron (I had those in Connecticut, and they are easy to take care of); in fact, the hole has already been dug, even though the rhododendron has not yet been purchased.

And I don't like hostas -- when it stops blooming, its foliage looks like discarded and withered cabbage leaves. I replaced a big one I had with a Japanese maple.

But I will carefully look into all the rest of your recommendations. Thanks again!
