Z,

Agreed,

During the Conference call, I believe he hoped to fully solve the problem during this quarter, but committed to 2 quarters.

As with any process improvement activity, there will be low hanging fruit that can be implemented in moments to days; optimizing the entire process usually takes much more time; improving it enough to be able to deliver consistent results within 2 quarters may be possible depending upon how bad / good it is today.

Most of us will have to wait until the next conference call to get a more precise estimate.

FWIW,
Ian.

Ameritech sees SBC merger by end June

ANTWERP, Belgium, May 11 (Reuters) - Ameritech Chairman and CEO Dick Notebaert said on Tuesday he expected the company's acquisition by SCB Communications Corp to be completed by the end of June after clearing all regulatory hurdles.

Notebaert also said he did not expect the Canadian regulatory authority to impose any conditions on Ameritech's acquisition of a 20 percent stake in BCE Inc's unit Bell Canada, adding that the deal should be completed by the end of May.

On SBC's plan to acquire the U.S. telecoms company, Notebaert noted that the U.S. Federal Communications Commission had stated its intention to complete its review before the end of June.

Therefore, he said: "I believe that we should have the merger process completed by the end of June."

Notebaert, speaking at a news conference in Antwerp after giving a speech at a conference, did not appear to be worried about a late claim by a regulatory agency in the U.S. state of Indiana to rule whether the deal was in the public interest.

On the acquisition of the Bell Canada stake, he said: "We expect no conditions in Canada...we should complete that transaction by the end of the month.
