Jon: Excellent results for CSCO. Did you notice that despite the so-called expanding Market, margins are contracting.?

Jon --

I just finished Cisco's CC replay and was pleased they conceded the ATM core to Newbridge and Nortel.

Q: With the 45-gig 8850, when do you anticipate shipping? And do you anticipate timing to impact your win-loss rate?

A: We've focused on the edge with IP/ATM. Things there going very well. Next generation switches slated for around the end of the calendar year. We will lose some business. But anywhere from 10-20 to 1 --- access to core --- we're focused on access. We will interoperate, as of this summer, with Newbridge and Nortel in the core --- through network management software.

Q: Could you give us an update on Sprint ION?

A: We're working closely with Sprint. This is the most comprehensive transition ever from old world networks to new. I meet bi-weekly with them. Obviously there are bumps. Service dates are scheduled for second half of year and we'll be participating.

Q: With Stratacom business, what are run rates?

A: We'll address this in the next conference call. Pipeline developing nicely.

Q: Are you satisfied with wins with ILECs?

A: We're seeing wins across all service provider markets. . . . there are challenges with traditional ILECs, they're moving slowly as a group. We're pleased with IXCs, ISPs, and next-generation markets... . Bell Atlantic, and SBC, jury still out. We're strong in GTE and US West. There are challenges in Europe.

Basically, we'll have to wait another quarter to find out what's going on behind Stratacom's doors.
