John,
Interesting on the pipeline shutdowns due to Y2K.

Not reported, but I know for a fact, that 3 of the major oil companies had pipelines shut down that took a number of days to reopen.

I am seeing something completely different (this is not hearsay). I am seeing Y2K remediation budgets re-allocated to IS/IT budgets. This is in both commercial and government organizations. Two oil companies that I have visited recently, openly discussed how to move the money from one budget to the other. I can only assume that this means that the Y2K problems have been dealt with for the most part and that the fears are exaggerated. I do think that the market will start to freak out based on Y2K fears, but I don't believe that they will end up being as substantial as many fear.

Of course, this is based on personal experience and so may be skewed by a limited sample.
