Like everything else, one must learn how to execute the finer points of mule trading, one does not want get stuck with a jackass... <g>

So very true. To run (or at least hobble) with your simile, I see Lucent like Old #7 (remember Grizzly Adams?). While she's sometimes obstinate, by God shes' the best durned mule I've ever had, and I'd hate to lose her.

Even though I don't have the patience (at least short-term patience...I almost bailed on ADBE at $50 a couple weeks ago!!) to trade Lucent, nor the smarts or attentiveness to write calls, I still feel very safe just holding this beauty and watching my shares double every 12 months. I'm not a greedy man.

Thanks for the reply, JV.

Mark

Globus Selects PacketStar ITS From
Lucent Technologies to Provide Voice Over
IP Telephony Services in Chile

MADRID, Spain--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 12, 1999--Lucent Technologies
(NYSE: LU -
news) today announced that it will provide its industry-leading PacketStar® ITS
(Internet
Telephony Server) solutions to Globus, a Telefonica subsidiary in Chile. With
PacketStar ITS,
Globus will offer voice over Internet services to the Chilean market.

Lucent's PacketStar ITS allows service providers to offer customers
high-quality voice and fax
transmission over IP networks using analog phones, faxes and PCs. Using voice
compression
algorithms from Bell Labs' elemedia(TM) software, the system also offers high
quality phone,
fax and PC-to-Phone voice services over data networks.

''We are pleased to provide these cutting-edge technologies to Globus as they
prepare to offer
new services in Chile,'' said Victor Agnellini, Lucent's sales vice president for
the Southern
Cone. ''This represents a significant win for Lucent as we expand our data
networking business
in Latin America.''

''The advantages of this service, which is targeted to both residential and
business segments,
include simplicity, lower costs, security, portability,'' said Matias Poupin, new
business
development manager, Globus. ''You can make the call from any phone and
charge it to the
assigned telephone number, without a PC or Internet connection. In addition,
there is a pass code
that creates a secure connection.''

Globus will be offering on-line activation to facilitate subscribing to the
service.

The Lucent PacketStar ITS is part of Lucent's revolutionary portfolio of
next-generation
networking products and services from Lucent aimed at helping service
providers, such as ISPs,
IXCs, CLECs or cable operators, to build their advanced data networks. The
system supports
current Internet Protocol (IP) standards for easy communications across
local-area, wide-area
and global networks, providing significant cost reductions over non-IP
solutions.

Combined with other components, including the ITS Service Access Manager
(SAM) and the
ITS Administrative Manager (AM), the PacketStar ITS enables service
providers to manage and
scale their networks to support multiple gateways and servers across the public
network. The
ITS-SAM performs the H.323 gatekeeper function, providing authentication of
users attempting
to place calls, administration of gateways across zones and call set-up, and
enables the ITS to
increase its capability in steps as service providers expand their networks. The
ITS-AM
provides web-based network management.

The ITS also offers an Application Programming Interface (API) that allows
service providers
to customize service offerings to differentiate their services and attract
residential and business
customers.

Globus offers long distance, data transmission and other other value added
services to the
Chilean market. The company's strategy is to develop new services based on IP
protocol
targeted to different market segments. Globus is the long distance arm of CTC,
S.A. For more
