Neocon,

I know enough Yeddish to joke arround with my Yeddish speaking friends, but as kinds we spoke Italian out of the house, and Ladino in the house. Hebrew was limited to the school and the temple.

At one time Ladino was spoken from Florence to Dubrovnik, to Sofia, to Salonika, and Isanbul by the Safrad. Now it is almost forgotten.

As for Yeddish, we always believed "Schnorers speak Yeddish!"

By the way did you know thta the first Jewish temple in the New World was built by the Ladino speaking Jews from England!

Neo,

The linguistically inclined wife has a book here called "the joys of Yiddish". Might I be of assistance? <VBG>

Note: Neither of us are Jewish.
