Yep, your Voip discussion from the VoIP thread is exactly where I saw this elucidating definition.

"BTW, if you could point to a good url that elaborates on the points made by CSCO last week, I'd appreciate it."

Frank,
Just so happens I have a link handy regarding Cisco's stopping the TGX 8750 project. I think it elaborates both views:
nwfusion.com

Cisco's supporters see it one way, detractors another.

At first the news had me concerned, but then when I heard (via the CC) the broadband run rate figures AND the annual sales growth rate of broadband products (both DSL and Cable), I was amazed. Not to many investors have focused on those figures. But being a last mile investor, I zeroed in on them.

Re: VoIP and Nortel's House

Frank,
Speaking of, "VoIP of a type which is predicated on traditional carrier emulation.."

What do you make of this announcement from Nortel? What a teaser. I don't know House's MO well enough to know if he is a straight shooter. It's been so long since he's been in the limelight. I kind of recall when he was under considerable fire, he was always pretty direct. But lacking facts, it's a tough one to call. Should be an interesting announcement when it's officially made.

TORONTO, May 12 - Data and telecommunications company Nortel
Networks Corp. said on Wednesday it will unveil a big contract this month for equipment to send speech over Internet protocol (IP)-based networks.

''Shortly we'll be unveiling a very large, carrier-grade, voice over IP networking (deal),'' Nortel President David House told Reuters in an interview. He declined to identify the customer, but said the contract would be announced in May.
