Not a military threat, a "threat by example". Since Yugoslavia was never so paradisiacal as he makes out, and most Western European countries are pretty full- blown welfare states, I doubt that its continued existence constituted an important reproach to the "capitalist powers". Also, he makes out as if Yugoslavian industry were ever a significant source of competition, which is absurd. Also, there is not enough worth taking over to justify massive military expenditures. Finally, the idea either that anyone was trying, or that anyone has succeeded, in reducing the United States itself to a Third World country is utterly ludicrous....
