Sir Francis, You have been making a number of excellent posts lately and I agree with just about everything you've said. The selling pressure still remains and today's action was disappointing, given that non-internet tech stocks were in vogue. SUNW and EMC for instance were up big time while Microsoft languished. I am not sure why Microsoft isn't participating in this rally. It probably is due to the uncertainty of the DOJ trial.

Microsoft may be consolidating here at this level until news develops on the trial front. However, one thing to consider is that Microsoft is now using their cash and making investments. In my opinion the purpose of these investments is to ensure a market for their software. I doubt if the additional revenue that will be generated by these new investments has been factored into analyst's earnings forecasts. If not, where are the upward revisions to earnings forecasts by the analysts following the stock? How long do you think it will take those analyst to figure out that additional revenue/earnings is on the horizon?

By the way, for hedging purposes only, I still hold MSFT May puts and during today's trading I had my finger ready to bail at any meaningful upward movement. It never came.

Regards,
Bob
