Tell it to the Hunts. Doesn't it depend on where (and when) you are standing? As a teen, I found it quite annoying that the cost of updating my coin collection was hampered by 50 dollar an ounce silver.

I don't know much about the details of this rumor, but I believe the implication of what I have read is that GS is short a rather large chunk of gold. And, as gold appeared to be breaking the 290 level, GS stood to be in seriously deep dung. Rather than a bailout, LTCM style, the English just gave lip service to intentions to sell gold. (It is cheaper that way.)

I don't know whether this really happened, of course. And I don't know if there is on going manipulation per say. But how can one say with any certainly that it can't happen?

In this particular case, I guess we will know soon enough.
