The Creative Glide thing is no big deal...

It only supports Glide 2.x. It might be a big deal if it already supported Glide 3.x, but it doesn't. DiabloII supports Glide3 only and represents a whole new target market for 3dfx. The QuakeIII focus is misplaced IMO. Diablo was the best selling game for 1997. Starcraft was the best selling game for 1998. Both beat the crap out of the first person shooters in terms of sales. DiabloII should be a huge 3dfx sales generator.

What's with the extensions? If developers are going to use those added features they will use them through Glide directly, not some third party hack. Doesn't make any sense to me.

As a personal point I am less impressed with QuakeIII than with Unreal. Unreal is just simply a better engine visually. The graphical leap in going for Q to QII was significant. QIII looks like QII with smoke trails and special lighting effects. There may actually be many more polygons involved, but the player animation doesn't appear any better than QII to my eyes.
