XOOM.com Launches Free Web-based Fax Service for its Members
PR Newswire - May 18, 1999 09:30

XOOMFax, a Co-Branded Service From XOOM.com and eFax.com, Allows Users to Receive Faxes Through Their Email

SAN FRANCISCO, May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- XOOM.com, Inc. (Nasdaq: XMCM), a leading direct e-commerce company, today launched XOOMFax, a leading-edge, free service that will allow its members to receive faxes from their email client. XOOM.com partnered with eFax.com (Nasdaq: EFAX), the leading Internet provider of fax-to-email services, to develop the co-branded Web-based fax service.

"XOOM.com is always looking to expand its menu of high quality, free services for its members," said Russell Hyzen, Vice President Business Development for XOOM.com. "Partnering with a best-of-breed company like eFax.com, we were able to develop a co-branded service that fits perfectly into our free offerings."

"XOOM.com's strategy of offering valuable, free Internet services has attracted one of the largest membership bases on the Web," said Ron Brown, Vice President of Marketing for eFax.com. "This relationship further establishes eFax.com as the leading provider of Internet document communications solutions."

The new XOOMFax service, which will be promoted within the "Free Web Services" at www.xoom.com, is extremely easy to use. When a user wants to send a fax, they simply dial the recipient's personal XOOMFax number and send. XOOMFax documents look and work just like emails with attachments. The recipient can then open the fax in the Microviewer, print it out or forward it to other email addresses.

Behind the scenes, each fax is received at the eFax Service Center, compressed and protected with the recipient's password and then instantly forwarded to the recipient. Upon registration, users receive a confirmation email that includes their XOOMFax number, PIN and the eFax Microviewer.
