You need to re-check your history. The war of 1812 was in (surprise) 1812. The potato famine which resulted in the Irish diaspora was in 1845. How are these events related in your mind?

Thanks for expanding our discussion about the Fenians. I know embarrassing little about them. As a child, we'd play hide-and-seek in the cemetery. One popular hiding spot was behind a giant monument to those who fell in battle during the Fenian raids. I once asked my father who these people were and he told me they were some Irish people who went to Washington and burned the place to the ground. I didn't inquire further: I didn't want to appear too interested, in case they decided to visit us.

Cheers, PW.
