it is naive to think that etrade's problems will end when they upgrade their server. their problems are more basic than that. they have developed flawed software that they are constantly tweaking, and with each bug they fix they create two new ones. they have no idea how to write solid software and even less how to run correctness tests. if they were serious they would fire all their middle and upper software development and management people and call in expert help.

i agree Perez, on the express version of the site for very active traders.
we are going to get that very soon, trust me!
haven't you heard ETrade is preparing the launch of a much better site?
i am an active trader myself and find the site slow sometimes, and it's annoying when "Our system has detected..." etc, specially when you're making a risky bet on an fast-moving IPO on its opening debut... ha ha
however, you have to understand this is an evolving technology, and of all the online brokers, ETrade is the best.
this technology is evolving on the go, and changes sometimes have to be madde during market hours, it's like changing a tyre while going at 100 mph.
besides, if you're a trader, where else would you get a Bridge terminal (ThePulse) for free? Schwab customers don't get that! the Schwab site is terribly slow.
as for Datek, yeah, commissions are cheap, but EVERYTHING is cheap there, i wouldn't send my funds there not if they pay me, i wouldn't sleep at night.

Lorenzo,
>>>They're spending millions on TV advertisement to get knew (sic) customers,<<<
They are gaining customers at a faster rate than they are losing the complainers who are looking for a perfect system that doesn't exist. When the perfect system is on line it will be E*Trade.
