Mark, agree. Somebody could write an interactive sales program for the iMac, and let it sell itself.

The key, IMO, is to keep it very simple.

iMac
one printer
one storage device (probably Imation)
Office
a few games
that's it.

Take 'em or leave 'em. Compare this to the confusion of your cornucopia of choices at the Gateway store. If people are computer novices, the tradeoffs are totally baffling.

The things can sell themselves, if somebody just writes the applescript and multimedia.

And those 17" monitor iMacs due out this fall will increase the exposure significantly.

Sears will sell iMacs if the sales force sees an easy buck in it. It's up to Apple and Sears to convince them.

I used to be a resident Apple sales rep for a store in Tyler. The field has changed. The chain stores like CompUSA don't believe in commissioning sales people. Consequently their sales personnel are more like park rangers than sales people. They are there. You can feel their presence. But if you want service, be prepared to kill a deer first.
