There has been an avalanche of media commentary emphasizing
the immense and grotesque crimes in the Balkans for nearly a
decade. It is natural that some folks, including many on the left,
have become very impassioned about wishing to see those crimes
curbed. This desire, perfectly reasonable on the face of it (though
at times ignoring other and often worse cases of repression and
violence in the world), has left some folks blind to the reality that
just saying that a policy helps people doesn't mean that, in fact, the
policy does help those people. The desire not to ignore the plight of
the Kosovars is worthy. But to advocate policies that end up
hurting the Kosovars, Yugoslavia as a whole, international law, the
UN, and by the threat-effect all who might oppose U.S. pursuits, on
grounds that at least it is doing something, is unworthy.

Agreed!! Yet, I want to remind you of my previous posts on the World War III thread:

And this analysis by Indian Professor of Economics Prabhat Patnaik:

Or this one:

When you claim: It's war of ideas. It's war between a the concept of human rights and freedom combined with tolerance for everyone as an individual, and the evil concept of ethnic superiority and intolerance.

The ideas emcompassed in the US constitution don't just belong to Americans. The constitution doesn't belong just for Anglo-Saxons or any particular ethnicity. It is the current culmanation of hundreds, if not thousands of years of philosophic thought and human intellectual progress towards the eventual goal of everyone being able to live in freedom and security.

You're touching a delicate nerve indeed! That's kind of a culture clash between the European mindset and the American's... Not all Europeans --as not all Americans for that matter-- are ready to cope with such a humanistic way of life...

Regards,

Gustave.

In the real world, you can have either freedom or security, but not both.
