Cirruslvr,
About 8 weeks ago AMD made a nice jump in yields and speeds. This was over the K6 line. This is filtering through now. K6-2s will soon be at 500 and K6-III-450s are becoming readily available.
Too bad this didn't happen 3 months ago. This wouldn't be so evident if Intel wasn't such a tough competitor. Just a 3 month glitch/delay sent AMD into a $128M loss. Remains to be seen if the K7 design can leap far enough ahead to buy AMD the time to ramp it up. Seems like a better chance than they had with the K6-III since the K6 FPU will never be as fast as the P6 core. Meanwhile Intel still has the high end and the profits. The K7 will be the most serious threat to Intels dominance since the AMD386-40 if not, ever.

Jim

Cringe - Re: "You can't realize the fact that the K6-III 450 is now finally available. Maybe you should get one. "

Why - nobody else is "getting one", I don't want to be stuck with a CPU that even AMD will obsolete before it hits volume production.

Re: "It will run your browser and other "office" applications faster than they are running right now. Either that or you could spend 3.5X more on the PIII 550 out tomorrow! You would love to spend $500 MORE wouldn't you? "

Yes - I would not mind spending $500 more on Intel's best processor.

I own Intel stock and I can easily afford it - and I DESERVE the BEST - I've EARNED IT!!

Paul

WHOOOOO! I guess that you really got his dander up. Did you see how he responded to my legitimate challenge to "Yousef's" impersonation. Really fellas, go easy on him, I think that he is nearing the breaking point.

He remains the classic case of the one who dishes it out unmercifully and cannot deal with even the mildest frustration.

Regards,

DARBES
