. . . . .On SAMs. . . . .

Stealth Accumulation Mode

SAMs: We post them in regular daily posts, then either the thread piles on or it doesn't . . . some come here and will place SAM status to a stock, but everyone here knows that the core of the thread must first agree, before it gets a HOME thread SAM status.

There have been some that William or Kevin Shea have brought when I have busy with other things. . .those are fine. . . .but when someone that does not post regularly starts trying to "sell" us on their baby. . . we basically ignore them. We're the only ones doing the picking here, so unless they have a winner, which isn't very often, they can go unanswered. This is a security measure to protect the thread.

Also. . .there are NO alerts given via Private Messaging. That is "front running" and is in violation of SEC regs. Any picks I make are posted to this thread first. . . they are not discussed between William and I or anything like that. . . unless a stock we have discussed long ago, suddenly starts to look good. . .or if we need second opinions on how a particlular stock is looking from a TA perspective, etc. etc. .but this is not regular and almost never happens. . . . we simply do not share picks before posting them to the thread. . . so don't embarrass yourself by asking.

The entire public is welcome to play each and every pick. . .they MUST read each and every post, however sometimes to figure out what we are playing. . . but if you are not a regular daily reader of the whole thread, then it is conceivable that one or two picks could pass you by. . . and after we go stealth we no longer use the SYMBOLS of the stock, but refer to it in other ways. . .making it more difficult for anyone to know what we are talking about.

A good trick is to just search this thread and the fishing thread [since many of our finds are beaten downs] for the keyword "SAM" . . that should bring up 85 percent of the posts where we discuss a stock placed into a SAM. . .again, watch who is doing the writing.

This happens in waves. . .might be a whole month where we are adding SAMs, then another whole months where they are popping and we are not adding many new ones. . . then several weeks could go by without adding any new ones. . . that is just the way the market goes. . . NOBODY here will place a SAM on a stock, just because we NEED one. . . .only the very best long-term quality companies are selected and played as position trades. . . however, the usual scenario is to keep some free shares long during a big runup. . . .depending on one's confidence in the stock.

We are not JUST short-term traders here. Many position trades have ended up in long portfolios, due to things we learned about them. So selling them off can sometimes be the wrong move.

I sold off TUNE, because I thought it to be overvalued at 50/share. . . but darn if it will not drop more than about 10 percent off that price. I am looking for it at about 25 bucks, so I can jump back in on a long term hold, due to the most remarkable deals this company has made and assets and connections. If it doesn't reach 25, I'll be upset. . .should probably short, but I don't trust it. . .too much upward pressure. . . .and boy does it ever pop. 4.50 to 20 to 60 in 2 days.

When a stock is given SAM status. . .please do not discuss that stock openly on short-term trading threads. . . if you have questions about the issue, best to go right to the stock's SI thread and ask questions there. . .or else ask questions on the HOME or FISHING threads, using the company name, abbreviation, or some other designation other than the symbol.

Reason is that during initial stages of accumulation, if word gets out too quickly, we can LOSE the stock to daytraders who run it up and down, take their profits and leave it to suffer in a very unhealthy state. When we institute a SAM, all of us have a fairly equal chance at getting in at a low level. . .now often our own buying will naturally start bidding up the price, but because we are in no hurry to buy. . .we can spread out our buys over a longer time and hopefully get the prices we want. . . smaller buy orders keep the stock low as well. . . .once everyone has had plenty of time to get in then we mostly just wait. . . . since the stock has been under recent accumulation, it often flies on news. . . when it does, it starts to attract other investors, sort of like BDE, PARA, UOLP and BDLS are doing now.

Once the stock has doubled, we COULD sell half and hold half long and free. . .many of us average our trades up [see recent article on "Removing Position"] or down according to size of positions, momentum, news or just our confidence.

Main thing is that we reduce our risk in proportion to our confidence in the stock's upward movement.

Having bought in SAM mode, we have many advantages over those arriving late. One is that any selling or shorting pressure that hits the stock, usually won't put us at a loss, because we bought in so low. Another is that we see profits long before daytraders even hear about the stock. . .so if it appears that daytraders are taking it for a ride, we can jump out until volatility receeds. . .or we can choose to play a portion of our position as a daytrade. . or as a swing trade [as I often do]. . .

The main thing is that we are in far more control and are safe from having to make quick reactionary moves in defense. . .we hold all the cards and can plan our strategy with far cooler heads. . .and in doing so, we can see bigger profits more often. . .and that is why we do things differently here.

. . . . On Summer Vacations. . . .

I'll be leaving town for two weeks in June, so there is an excuse not to have to turn to short-selling right there. See, I have an excuse. <g>

I'll post from Palm Springs or Newport Beach off and on, but not nearly as regularly as you have come to know. Market should be pretty boring then anyway. Going to see Star Wars at the Big Newport on their enormous screen in 70 mm with THX sound. . .that is where I saw original Star Wars in 1977 and was blown away. . .so it will be Nostalgic and cool at the same time. Kids spending a month or so with CA relatives. . . Wife hanging with her family and friends. . . I with mine.

Nashville's been cool, but it aint home.

We'll probably be visiting Vegas as well. . .gotta check out some of those new hotels.

We will take a second trip to see my folks in Ohio. . probably over Independence Day holidays, then spend some time in the Cleveland area. . . see the Indians play at Jones Field, check out amusement parks. . . Cedar Point, Geauga Lake, Sea World, Cleveland Institute of Art, fireworks displays, shows, R and R Hall of Fame and the "Flats", where about 50,000 people go each night during the summer to be entertained by about 40 rock bands performing in as many nightclubs. . Indoors, outdoors all along the docks . . . WAY cool for anyone that has never been there. . . when you see Drew Carey say the word "Ohio" on his lead-in. . that shot is on the flats.

Having played most every venue, school, church, arena, hall or field in the northern half of the state. . .I can tell you that those people LOVE to rock. . . the rock bands in Ohio have always been second to none. Sort of how jazz is in New York City. . . it's like it doesn't exist anywhere else. . . .what Nashville is to Country/songwriting or the Big Apple is to jazz. . . Cleveland is to Rock. . . hard to describe unless you've been there.

NOTE: This is not a paid endorsement. I am not paid to promote or demote any city. I have owned stock in the Cleveland Indians, but have recently sold it. I am a Browns fan, but I also like the Steelers. . .that is sacreligious in that area and must never be revealed while staying there. This is not a recommendation to visit Cleveland. They do have a dark side, too. . .but most of that has been cleaned up in recent years. . . but keep your doors locked and windows up in any big city. I will not be visiting Vancouver, Denver or Dallas and would keep both hands on wallets in those cities. You should do your own DD before visiting any city. I cannot be responsible for any losses incurred in Las Vegas, as that is all part of the entertainment experience. However any gains while there are the sole property of this writer. Remember gambling is risky and you should only gamble what you can afford to lose. . . which for nearly every person on the planet is nothing. So do something more productive for a change. . .go mow the yard. . .make some lemonade. . .watch a matinee and for heaven's sake. . .HUG YOUR KIDS.
