What follows is an excellent, speculative post written by Barge on the RB thread. I'd be very interested in any commentary that anyone here has on it...

DooWopGuy--RE: Wave and AOL. It appears Wave WILL be in the AOL Box. I will depend on you, Countryboy and others to tighten up the connections...but I claim that all the dots point to a Wave being in the set top box. Does surprise anyone that AOL has been investing in WAVE?

---IGST(partnered with WAVE) WILL provide the "ONLY" media chip for the AOL Set Top Box:

---SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Following yesterday's AOL set top box announcements, iGS Technologies, Inc. ---IGST to Incorporate Wave Systems' EMBASSY Technology in Multimedia Chips for Set-Top Boxes

---Set-Top Box Chip Maker Announces Alliance with Wave Systems to Implement

---Trusted-Client Technology into End-User Devices

---Anaheim, CA -- Delivering on its strategy to proliferate trusted client technology in a wide variety of end-user devices, Wave Systems (OTC BB: WAVX; wave.com) today announced a technology license agreement with the Multimedia supplier IGS Technologies Inc. at the Western Show in Anaheim, CA. Under terms of this agreement, IGS will incorporate Wave Systems' EMBASSYTM; (EMBedded Application Security SYstem) technology into a variety of IGS' integrated circuit (IC) products for emerging technologies, including versions of its next generation set top box multimedia companion chips. The agreement will enable IGS to embed robust digital content metering and secure transaction and application processing capabilities in a variety of end user devices, including set-top boxes, and information appliances. The IGS agreement marks another milestone in Wave Systems' efforts to seed its EMBASSY trusted-client solution into end-user devices.

---Wave Systems and IGS are already working together to jointly market their solution. IGS plans to work with a number of OEM customers and strategic business partners including major internet, cable and satellite set top box manufacturers worldwide and current IGST OEMs to integrate this technology into their platforms. "By taking advantage of EMBASSY's secure processing and metering technology, IGST will be able to offer our customers key, leading-edge functionality and add real commercial value to their products," said Mike Raghavan, senior director of marketing for IGST. "Trusted-client capabilities like digital content metering and embedded security will push set top boxes and information appliances to the center of end-users e-commerce transactions."

IGST provides the most integrated multimedia solution for set top boxes and information appliances with its 7-in-1 CyberPro5000 and 5300 family. "

---BY THE WAY, TAKE A LOOK AT THE PASTE BELOW FROM THE ABOVE ANNOUNCEMENT. NOTE THE "CANNED HP.....TURSTED CLIENT>" LINE. A PRETTY REVEALING REVEALING SCREW UP WHICH PROVIDES MORE EVIDENCE OF THE SIGNIFCANCE OF HP.

---"The EMBASSY E-Commerce System is an open, programmable, standards-based platform for running secure application and protecting important data and digital identities on individual PCs and other end user devices. The EMBASSY E-Commerce System is the first implementation of the trusted client technology recently announced by Wave and Hewlett-Packard, and will allow third party software vendors to develop secure PC-based, e-commerce applications that run in a trusted environment. Why No HP Mention In Today's Release...?

I find it curious that HP wasn't mentioned at all. RSA? Yes. (And actually that conspicuous mention of RSA as a live wire... has got me me going back to them and reviewing developments.) But, no HP. (Used to be that HP was trumpeting its WAVX relationship... and we were perfectly happy to be trumpeted about.)

When you visit the HP VerSecure page, it has that "Nobody home since late '98" look. Just something that makes me go hmmmm.... I've been rooting around all of HP's security offerings. And some just seem to be ripe for EMBASSY. But, no direct mention.

Of course, I've wondered about IBM... and as of E3... Steven assures us that they are working with IBM on a weekly basis.

There is, of course, another way of looking at this no-HP thing-y. Maybe, HP is wanting us to be quiet... not to steal any thunder from what IT wants to announce. Tomorrow is the HP announcement day, after all.

For an RB poster: "Freemont" is HP's name for its proposed new e-commerce standard/set of API interfaces. I read about Freemont, I believe, in Infoworld. None of what I read seemed to yell "EMBASSY!"

I've been sort of wanting to comment about the perceived elitism of this thread. Sort of. But... I'll leave it be. It's fairly obvious... I like this thread. Good sense of community. Good thinking. I particularly want to praise Steven for his ongoing work here.

Best Regards...
