Chuzz:

Thanks for your always salient explanations. They are indeed helpful for those of us less experienced in such matters.

Chuzz,
Based on your post the long-term advantage for IBM is a no-brainer. Can't imagine why IBM wouldn't want to get the $1 billion monkey off its back by outsourcing this production to Dell as a wholly-owned subsidiary like Tivoli, TSS and others. I'd still be very surprised to see this happen, but as an IBM shareholder it is intriguing.
Best wishes and prayers for you and your wife.

<<It is much more important to look for long-term advantages arising from mergers. The possibility of cross-selling, designing and building new technologies based on interlocking pieces, elimination of redundant facilities -- these are a few of those advantages. >>

Chuzz: I expect MSD to work to extract most of the advantages of a merger from a deeper, more comprehensive alliance with IBM. IMO, DELL would be much better off as an independent firm rather than as a division of IBM. I DO NOT expect MSD to sell / merge the company. Of course I am not always right <GG>.

Best Regards,

Scott

Chuzz, thanks for the clear direct explanation of mergers and accretiveness(sp?). Best wishes to you and your wife and for her speedy recovery. Sent you a PM last week, never sent one before so I don't know whether you got it. Also don't know how to check if I have any PM's. Oh well, I'll eventually figure it out. Regards and aloha.
