Foreign investments amount to US$1.514bn in April

Foreign direct investments in Brazil amounted to US$1.514bn in April,
the Central Bank Economic Department (Depec) informed.
The figure is below that of March, when the country received US$2.015bn
in foreign investments.

The Central Bank added to April's result an amount of US$963m invested
in privatization. In March, foreign investors spent US$250m on
privatization.

In 1999, the accumulated volume of foreign investments reached
US$9.241bn. In the 12-month period to April, such investments amounted
to US$31.159bn

The Brazilian government expects to close out the year with foreign
investments totaling some US$20bn. (By Gustavo Freire)
