Re: "And at that point, Intel will have played their last trump card until Willamette. "

More old thinking. How about Coppermine with 512K, 1Meg, and 2Meg L2s? All on die with low latency/high bandwidth.

Scumbria,

Would you not expect Intel to remain MHz competitive for the next 2 quarters because of the lead in 180nm technology? Why not?

Paul,
When do you expect Wilamette to ship?

Chuck

SCUMbria - Re: "However, my sources indicate that Intel is CURRENTLY very close to sampling 600 MHz Coppermine CPUs... And at that point, Intel will have played their last trump card until Willamette"

How naive you are.

First, the Coppermine will most likely be released at 600 MHz in CONJUNCTION with the 820 chip set/Camino and RAMBUS.

I would expect that 667 MHz Coppermines and Cascades will be available before the end of the year - 1999.

Mobile versions of the Coppermine - with Geyserville technology - will also be readily available.

My guess is that "60 Watter" K7 won't be seen in a mobile configuration for "a little while" !

And since you mentioned it, WILLAMETTE, well, that may not be as far behind as you would like it to be.

I saw some pretty fast specInt and SpecFPU numbers with Willamette/Foster CPUs and COLUSA chip sets.

It wouldn't surprise me if Intel's customers see these numbers REAL SOON also - about the time the K7 is launched !

HA! You are kidding, right? Scumbria, did you notice all the announcements about SMP workstation and server configurations for the desKtop 7(tm PREngel)? You didn't? I didn't either. According to A.A.L.F., that's what's going to save AMD. Better get on it!
