Paul,
RE:"Here's another STUNNER !

AMD's 550 MHz K7 - a PURE 7'th GENERATION CPU - was only as
fast as Intel's 550 MHz Pentium /// with the AGING P6 - 6'th
Generation - core.

Whatever happened to all that blazing speed the K7 was supposed to
have - and performance advantage over the Intel chips ?"...

---

Shoot, I thought that was MY STUNNER. Now it's another STUNNER?

Actually, if this un-named cpu is really a K7-550 it would be SLOWER than a 550MHZ K6-3 in Winstone 99. A lot slower. Scumbria and some others said the K7 wouldn't be faster than a K6-3 in Winstone 99 all along but I would not have expected it to be SLOWER.
Then again, Anand might be baiting us again.
Well, you wanted it...the hype, bait, benchmarks are starting to flow.
The K7 must be near release.

Jim

Paul,

Based on Anand's numbers, I am fairly certain that he has older rev stuff with 200 MHz bus, 1/3 speed cache and possibly 100 MHz RAM.

Don't be misled. Expect integer performance better than K6-3 on a clock per clock basis. The FP performance is rumored to be *at least* two speed grades better than PIII for most applications.

I am almost ready to dump my INTC if there is no major info coming out from Intel managment or if I feel a bit warmer about AMD's production side. Well, I should take that up on the INTC board...

Chuck

Why don't we have Intel benchmark Merced and see if performs as well as a IA64 chip should perform.

But Intel wouldn't want that would they?

The microprocessor world is waiting on McKinley not your DELAYED Merced...

The big question is: Which core (P6 or K7) will scale better to high MHz?
