John,

I think DELL cracked down on the leaking information to the analysts.
This should only be done by the management team in charge.

Ashok Kumar sounds almost bitter. He and Niles seemed to be getting inside information and now it looks like the source(s) have been eliminated. I believe that this sort of leak is actually illegal. But then I am not a lawyer.

So the analysts are going with pro forma projections and really do not have a clue about what the real results are going to be. All they have is a rather large range of possibilities.

This Y2K lockdown story is a spin which will no longer work with anyone that has listened to the conference calls.

These analysts are working agendas.

John, I am convinced that we will never know what the motives are behind a questionable upgrade/downgrade. But they happen, and represent nothing more than opportunity for the rest of us.

Best of luck today!

Regards,

Gene

<<< Jim- It is pretty amazing that after hearing weeks of "PC going to he$$", negative reports about the PC sector, "who would invest in those stocks now?".....then, we had maybe one or two days of
"Oh, I guess things are fine afterall", and positive sector news.....more concern about Dell, and now>>>>
Good post John- could say 'I know where you are coming from'
The last three hectic months of analysts saying the sky is falling will prove to be just noise and distraction.
Dell is one of those very rare stocks where a person could leave the thread for months or years and return richer to find that 'Dell is the same',per VG.
Remembering the good old days when Dell used to go up 8 or 12 points in a week, today it only has to go up a bit over 2 points to be equivalent to that.
With his immense power to influence the markets, Mr G is
forced into using double-speak and thus provide a balanced picture.
It may take several days for a proper interpretation of what he says today. Yet even before he is finished talking the bulls and bears on Cnbc will using his words to do their job of stirring the market.
IMO what Kumar is saying is that he WISHES the Street will take Dell down even if Dell meets all goals. The standard reply -If wishes were horses then beggars might ride and Kumar will probably still be on foot tomorrow unless he is able to steal a horse.
