I think no matter how you read it.....the net profit or loss would be considered from the long at 39, period. Had the market gone the other way on you, the net profit would have been earned by the closing of the long trade whereever that would have been done. Being long and short is a flat position.....only if there is a premium burn somewhere will you make money on the postion by holding both ways....
