I find Bezos and his colleagues management more honest by warning the investors well in advance about huge investments back into Amazon's business going forward and therefore lack of profitability this year.

It's fine to warn that you will lose money, but that doesn't create credibility. The credibility problem is in trying to get clean numbers for all operations, and a question whether they know what they are doing. Maybe they do, but when will they break even? How do you quantify the benefit of the last $650 million purchase? From a technology point of view it looks overpriced by three orders of magnitude, so concerns are to be expected. I'd love to hear the story on that one.
