The RealAudio player(s) are entrenched into the Internet.
It is solid as a rock.
Just like Win95/98/NT are to computer systems...
RealAudio is to Internet players...

MSFT is trying to take some of the action but I think they're too late. RealAudio has already done it.

Others are trying to get into it also, but RA is still king.

Just my opinion, of course.

Now, when it comes to broadband TV cable with all the bells & whistles, that may be another story.

Joe

RNWK actually has more programmers devoted to this development effort than MSFT does--and it shows in the product.

MSFT has more money to pay for advertising.

Advertising isn't going to matter much. RNWK already has brand name recognition, and the place where the real money gets made is in server sales, and people who buy the servers know who the players in the industry are. They seem to have given RNWK the vote of confidence. This isn't like the browser wars -- you're not trying to capture Joe Consumer on the street. That battle is already over. It's the servers that count.

MSFT has more programmers.

And most of them are desperately trying to fix bugs in Windows 2000 (which until recently was called Windows NT), because it's late by about 2 years. The rest are desperately trying to find someone to take Windows CE seriously.

MSFT can charge less for its streamer.

Well, you get what you pay for.

MSFT can even bundle the streamer software into the OS if they want.

Somehow, I doubt that MSFT would want to attract more attention from the Justice Department right now. Bundling the server into the O/S would do just that.

THIS THINGS GONNA BE BIG.

Real Networks will obviously be involved in the delivery of broadband streaming content.

Every TV and beyond!

I suspect that broad band should appear like a flowering tulip. Upon us at once.

Let's hope that everyone succeeds.

Good question. MSFT rarely fails. But RNWK is well positioned. Why choose? Own both. (But own more MSFT.)
