<<<gerstner not a creampuff...>!!!astute, and RUTHLESS..>>

edamo and Arthur: Another thing to remember is that Lou and his financial wizards have bought back BILLIONS of their own stock -- It's an interesting way to deploy cash when you may not have enough good organic growth opportunities to invest in <GG>...DELL may now be mature enough to consider more aggressive stock buybacks. I would be interested in TM's thoughts on this. I consider him to be THE BEST CFO in the high tech industry. Look what he has done with DELL in the last few years. The company's ROIC is tough to beat. The game has changed a little now and I think he and and MSD will effectively adapt.

Best Regards,

Scott

arthur...ibm, dell et al...

"the ability to raise any amount of money..." most forget of that capability that the ibm class companies have...no need for totally creative financing that the i-nets attempt....

i believe we are entering an era of consolidation, but it is looking as not pure industry consolidation as in the past...it will all evolve in the tech sectors around data and voice communication...the old fashion telephone provider is done...look at msft with telecom and xrx recent moves, aol/netscape maybe sunw posturing for its niche,t,and the cables a company can no longer have "one purpose"....kinda like an integrated conglomerate entity....

listening to gerstners recent comments and their polite but backhanded slap at companies as dell, indicates the massive designs he has for ibm growth...and the market is cheering him on...
