Scarey precedent set there with that Nisgaa treaty. Fiefdom based on race.
I wonder if there are Injun fighter descendants out there looking to revive their culture.

Thread: Several inaccurate statements here,
you can read a recent article here: It was
a three year old female for one...

While I personally am sickened by the whale killing,
it is good to keep this in perspective--2000 other
whales will be harvested...

Also, if you were a young Makah living up at Neah Bay,
where mainly the only thing to do is watch it rain
most of the time, you might enjoy chasing down a
whale, then trying to eat it--frankly, I'd rather
have a nice sirloin instead of clam-flavored buffallo,
but to each his own.

I'm not too sure that the canoe was towed out to the
killing site, I had heard that the rowers were strong
young fellows, and could pretty much power around on
their own.

I was starting to get kinda angry when I heard that
the whale was killed--then I saw the evening newspaper
with a picture of some Seattleites doing the candlight
vigil thing--really weak man! All the feelings I had
against the Makah just drained out of me when I saw
the photo of these emotionally wrought nut cases.

The whales will have their planet back someday, don't
think for a second that humans will still be here
10,000 years from now! No need to cry for the whales!

Enjoyed the D.H. Lawrence. Best to read him when
you're young, with hormones raging, but a nice
selection there.

<fed up about Indians and their special privileges.>

Well la=dee=dah. It has taken almost a century for the white european population of America to admit to the atrocities heaped upon the Native Americans as a result of the europeans demand for land that did not belong to them.

Are you fed up about the concessions given the African Americans or the Hispanics? What about cinco de Mayo celebrations? Since cultural traditions other than those practiced by whatever culture you are make you fed up, maybe you should read up on the history of the westward expansion. Many books have been written and, most of them by white Europeans.

I don't condone the wholesale slaughter of whales, like that of the Europeans from Martha's vinyard or the Japanese. Only one whale was taken to preserve tradition. I doubt there will be another because,as I have been told,it tastes awful.

All I ask of anyone is a modicum of tolerance,an open mind and, lack of self-centeredness on the cultural aspects of life.

I beginning to smell "the only good indian is a dead indian" rat behind this thread started by some white jerk, who really is saying "if those indians don't start getting uppity" we will get really mean.
This thread should experience an early death I hope.Max
This response is to Stephen O saying
"Our tribes will be less militant about it I think. The rest of us are getting rather fed up
about the Indians and all their special privileges."
