Edamo,

You wrote

"but it is the expansion of business into the more profitable segments that i question."

When one grows its business, one should rely on its own expertise. Dell very efficiently makes boxes. The real nice thing about DEll, versus the others, is such great efficiency. When things start to commoditize, the lowest cost producer wins. Remember the disk drives.

To reach more profitable segments, it is easier, to rely on a close segment, as Quantum does with software for storage, after tapes for storage, after disks for storage. Such is organic growth.

What, in this respect, could You envision for DEll to do?

Lutz

I also think Unisys would be a good purchase - they still have some good technologists, a good service business, and they would help broaden DELL. This would of course be a significant departure from DELL's current business model and MSD may well have a more highly leveraged play in mind...
