Good news for DoubleClick, FlyCast, BurstMedia, and NetPerception as internet advertising generated sales is expected to surge to over $11 billion in 1999.

The Internet continues to lead direct marketing media in sales, advertising spending and employment growth, according to a study released Tuesday by the Direct Marketing Association (DMA). Internet-generated sales are expected to exceed $11 billion in 1999, nearly double 1998 sales of $5.9 billion. From 1994 to 1999, interactive sales grew 201.9 percent annually and sales growth from 1999 to 2004 is projected at 50.2 percent each year, the industry group said.Internet advertising spending is expected to grow at an annual rate of 45.7 percent from 1999 to 2004, compared with 160.2 percent growth from 1994 through 1999. This compares with all U.S. ad spending, which is expected to grow less than 6 percent each year from 1999 to 2004. Also, Internet employment continues to climb. From 1994 to 1999, employment increased 186.7 percent annually, while employment is expected to grow by 43.9 percent annually through 2004, DMA said. Total U.S. job growth is projected at less than 2 percent annually through 2004, the trade association said. - Reuters

Saw an article at CBSMarketwatch site about AOL. Analyst was quoted to say:

"Bruce Smith, Internet analyst at Jefferies & Co., reiterated his "buy" rating and $175 price target, citing AOL's ability to capture the increasing amounts of advertising dollars shifting from television to the Net as "Internet usage is eating away at TV watching and, in tandem, the top 10 advertisers are spending, on average, 3.8 percent less on TV" ads."
