r.edwards - ATT does have wireless presence but nothing approaching a national footprint -- not sure of area / penetration.

DSL is by definition based on twisted pair copper wire -- all lines essentially owned by the RBOC's. Per FTC / congressional dereg, they do wholesale use to other competitve local exchange carriers (CLECs, I believe they're called) as well as to other DSL providers (many recently to market - RTHM, COVD, NPNT). DSL technology can come in different variants in providing higher speeder / bandwidth capacity at progressively higher cost. (See Bell Atlantic page for eg's). Different variants: xDSL, ADSL, DSL-lite or G-lite, I believe it's called. For example, in ADSL, the 'A' stands for Asymmetric meaning data transmission speed is faster one way vs. the other way: downloading vs. uploading.

Good luck -

George Martin
