OK, so who has Doug's ear? Who can actually telephone him and get him on the line?

Penny, I'll be glad to take charge! Pick up your rakes and torches, who's with me? Let's burn the castle!

Doug may not be Jack Welch. He is a small businessman. He's not had much experience running a public company in the private sector. That does not mean he's incapable of it. To me, it only means that he's not had good help or good advice. I'm not aware of many CEOs that achieve at high levels without the benefit of a good mentor at some point in their development. He may have a fatal blind spot, though, in not recognizing or acting on the need for help.

So, let's get him some help.

Does anyone know of a competent board member candidate that has a track record of success in similar ventures? If so,

1. Can you establish that the candidate is interested in ETPI, and what (if any) compensation he/she would seek in exchange for Board participation and limited-scope management consulting? How about Partners/Directors in the Emerging Business practices of Big 5 accounting/consulting firms? What about entrepreneurs that have successfully (100+) franchised restaurants? What about successful Internet portal developers?
2. Can you clearly identify the areas in which the candidate could benefit ETPI?

If so, step forward.

If you have a significant interest in ETPI, help out. Don't just complain. With the power of the Internet, we should be able to identify much stronger board members that can help Doug plan and execute.

None of us need a "rubber-stamp" board.
