appreciate your running commentary on getting y2k ready. yes, it is NOT fun writing checks for this, BUT, it is fun being out of the stock market for the first time in almost 18 years. Never knew how much time I spent watching nuances until I took my money out last week. the solar panels get hooked up today and I've learned more about wire gauge/wire sheathing/wire strand/amperage/voltage/wattage than I ever expected to need to know in this lifetime. and my battery bank turned from a $20 welding custom fit battery bank tray install plus parts cost for making cables job, into a $500 gouge. that hurt. i've had 5/8 steel rod stock custom shaped into u-bolts with 2" thread ed ends to attach my generator to the back bumper of my new travel trailer. (hint: if you want U-bolts for attaching anything, you'll need to go to a "spring" company...they'll custom do it on the spot. About $15 per did the trick. spring as in car/truck spring fabricators/installers) among the most wierd the thing i did last night was get under the truck, wire brush down the gas tank that did NOT have a protective shroud and "painted" it with grey-black elas-to-seal from my local hardware store. sure don't want to leak out any of that precious petrol in my old Ford. picked up some bondo at the automotive counter while i was there, so that small holes on ANYTHING metal could "stay small" with a little elbow grease. haven't figured out how to make the activator/epoxy tube last for more than one application. that's what i'm finding, flats. for every solution i come up with, i need more than what i planned on buying to feel like i can have a redundancy system for my "original fix" applications. that's where the nickels and dimes add up in a hurry...carrying all this personal inventory of stuff like bondo and not just toilet paper and laundry soap. single parents how have to create the "guy stuff list" as well as the "gal homemaker list" must really be stretching the brain cells as well as the budget. the more i do to prepare, the more i understand why most folks have just turned a deaf ear and declared they can't handle it. also got the differential serviced last week, and took advantage of Q-state lube facilities, T-Tech service they call it, where they take force out the old gunk by forcing in new. sure has improved performance of my gitney. Q-State's process removed almost 15 quarts, which of course means the torque converter has fresh lubricant for the first time since 1977 when it came out. oh, and yes, i'll be buying a points and plug conversion kit, plus an extra ignition model to y2k proof my truck as much as we are able. today? that's another to-do list as long as my arm. keep sharing, flats, i sure do appreciate it. and i can imagine you'll enjoy your 9" second hand color tv from the local pawn shop, which also operates DC should you add on the battery pack, as much as you did your 50" whopper. btw, my personal comparative study of Sarajevo after their decimation shows that there isn't anything worth watching on tv for the last 9 years after all. the tv stations turned into govt run public propaganda machines as all regular programming was and has been permanently pre-empted. in fact, radio has been the biggest one communication tool everyone cherishs to this day. went to a local radio club swap meet and picked up a portable short-wave plus all the am-fm, police, weather, etc for $3 ...yes only three dollars! guy said it didn't work...but i took it home and plugged it in. works like a charm. that sure helped some of the check writing horrors even out a bit.
