Kuwait was never Iraqi territory, for the simple reason that when it was a part of the province of Iraq, they both were part of the Ottoman Empire. Anyway, that was in the 18th century. It had been a British protectorate or independent for quite some time...I don't know about the drilling, but if it were so, there are other methods of recourse than occupation...I didn't know that bucking OPEC was a good reason for war...Whether or not we gave "two hoots" about Kuwait, we didn't want Saddam to take the rest of the Arabian Peninsula, and thus control about a quarter of proven oil reserves. We also wanted to get rid of his facilities for the production of weapons of mass destruction. Boy, are we evil!

Ahh, so it is wrong for the US to intervene in a foreign country, but it is ok for Saddam to do so, because the Kuwaitis are rich. Selling over quota? So does Saudi Arabia, quite regularly. But I forgot, Kuwait was once part of Iraq. Nyah! Wrong. Here is a little history from ArabNet:

arab.net

Its a wonder Saddam didnt use gas on the Kuwaitis, like he did on Kurds in northern Iraq. Nice guy he is, always mindful of the people.

Of course we didnt free Kuwait for the Kuwaitis. We did it for oil. And so did Canada and just about the rest of the world. Hell even the tight-wad Japanese government forked over some cash for that oil. And why should you think that I should be ashamed of that sort of blatant self-interest? Think about it next time you wake up, and realize that nothing you set your eyes upon could have been possible without oil.
