I just think in an extremely overpopulated and complex world giving every one easy access to fire arms has been a recipe for disaster.I believe that two hundred years of history has demonstrated that we don't need need a "well armed militia" to protect us from an oppressive government. Where as I do sympathize with ones desire to have the protection of a gun at home or even when not at home. And I would agree with many who are concerned about government intrusion into our lives. Still I believe that the over all benefits to be gained by taking hand guns out of circulation would outweigh these concerns. Whenever I read about some nut case pulling the trigger it always brings home how final death is.Of course all of the above is predicated on the belief that taking hand guns out of the general populations would lead to an overall reduction in violent crime. It just seems to make sense. I do have some trouble with the extreme opposition to the elimination of some of these high powered machine gun type fire arms and the opposition to some very moderate restrictions on the purchasing of guns [waiting periods,background checks and the like] Doesn't seem too unreasonable to me. Also I don't like the power that the NRA seems to weld in congress on this issue. It doesn't seem to speak well for the Democracy does it? There you have it nothing new here. It's all been said before..........Your turn. pez
