The CEO and CFO told them very clearly there won't be profits for years. And yes you were right that several analysts said in their reports they expected 99Q4 to be profitable. Including M. Meeker, and I think Henry B. And I think also Kiggen in his 280 target. Where is MoonBrother ? He always posted those "for our enjoyment". He knew what the game was about, and he sure wasn't about to be a greater fool.
