Net2Phone Lands Impressive Backers

Sometimes you get lucky.

A few weeks ago I hinted in this report that I believed Japan's Softbank and AOL would both end up being investors in Net2Phone, IDT Corp.'s (IDTC) Internet telephony unit. On Tuesday, after months of speculation among Internet investors, IDT finally filed for a $50 million initial public offering of Net2Phone. Not only were AOL and Softbank named as Net2Phone shareholders, but Net2Phone's S-1 filing revealed that General Electric's (GE) GE Capital unit also holds a minority position in the Net telephony firm. I believe GE could bring to the table a variety of distribution partnerships for Net2Phone, including deals with NBC-owned Web properties such as XOOM.com (XMCM), Snap.com, MSNBC.com and NBC Interactive Neighborhood.
