Rande and all,

Semi-off topic: I feel as though I should explain the context of my own postings to the home thread, however I'm somewhat shy to do so in public because of some personal matters. Nothing to be ashamed of though IMO, so here goes... Ever since I got back from my ski trip in late March I've been reading and contributing to the Home thread strictly for educational purposes. I lost A LOT of money in non-reporting BBs last year. In fact, the money lost has forced my withdrawal from school for the time being. I'm currently working full time (overtime weather permitting) as a residential landscape foreman and plan to return to the Carlson School in the fall of 2000. Already at age 21 I've encountered some large obstacles in pursuit of my goals. No worry though really, I call it 'paying your dues.' Actually graduated from highschool in 96 and needed to take a year off before college and work full time in order to get things going financially. Reapplied for preferred admission to a MUCH better school and was accepted... started as a freshman in the fall of 97. Have since finished my liberal arts requirements (with a great gpa I might add) and am now looking forward to delving into my major. However, I went out on a limb last May and began investing with a full head of ignorance. As I've indicated, things didn't go so well and they are now catching up to me financially. Twas time for me to go to work before things got out of hand and so I backed out of school when I got back from vacation and went on 12 interviews (as an employee, you've got to love this labor market! 2.1% unemployment in MN, they want you bad!!) This is my fourth year landscaping, and at this point I'm gaining some valuable mgmt experience as a foreman by dealing with reality based situations and the coordination of the day's production (improvising almost constantly). I've always told myself that especially when it comes to mgmt majors, although the quality of education is important when considering an applicant, actual experience is ultimately paramount in the final decision. So anyway, I'm lookin at the bright side and keepin my head up. Didn't own any BDE, wish I had but that's life. A lifetime of learnin and mine has just begun. Which essentially is my point. I'm readin your thread cuz I know I can learn some things from ya'll (already have learned plenty in fact... thanks), and figured I could offer an unbiased opinion here and there, and maybe make a few friends along the way (your thread attracts some of the most decent folk around). I describe myself as somewhat of an information enthusiast (with an inkling towards economics) and the HOME thread is part of my daily supplement. I was trading along with you guys for some time during the beginning of the year, but my amount of capital became too limited (PRFM was a doozy). Some good ol' bluecollar duties was just about the only solution. Keepin up with SI has become a hobby for now...

Thanks all for the info,
Dave (payin them dues :-)
