Are you saying that the appliances will force further declines in pc pricing, thus attracting more customers?

Appliances will be only one factor as we see the progression toward better price / performance a la Moore's law.

Why is there going to be an upgrade cycle within 3 years?

Because that's about the current average cycle time for a PC to become nearly obsolete.

I suppose one could still produce perfectly good business letters on an Osburne with a text editor. But sooner or later, the hardware / software advances are such that current PC owners begin to feel the need to upgrade; and non owners are encouraged to buy.

If you prefer a different number than 3 years, I'm not religious about that guesstimate.

Ian.
