Sector,

Thanks for the good post. I read those Pluris whitepapers yesterday and it seemed to say a few things to me -

--adding line cards are a problem when updating networks (interconnect speeds are hard to keep high)

--enterprise router's right now aren't scalable

--growing a network now means 'adding boxes', which increases complexity and overhead.

--chip speeds aren't keeping up with internet equipment needs

but it did not give any solutions other than to say, 'single systems' should replace 'single boxes' in the future. maybe i was reading them wrong or missed something, but i want to read more about why someone may buy someone's new routers over Cisco's stuff. it can't be just down to speed and cost, bc this didn't harm them in the past.

i would like to compare all the Terabit Router People. I mean, bring up all the names that have a chance here in the future to build market share.

CSCO (acquired someone I believe?)
LU (not sure)

Aranea
Juniper (just IP?)
Nexabit (just IP)
Avici
Netcore (does ATM and IP)
Pluris
Argon

CSCO and LU are the big gorilla's, so the question is, is there any significant advantages these other guys bring to the table other than just speed? Which method will be used more in the next couple years, IP and ATM or just IP routers? Sector, i know you really like the Aranea. I apologize in advance if you have already gone over why the Aranea is better than these others...

The reason I ask many questions is because i have zero clue right now what the answers are, but would like to hear opinions from those with router experience/outlook. ;-))

cheers
