re: hunting

You say you regretted killing the deer. Just as a point of discussion I am assuming you ate the meat or gave it to others. Are you a meat eater and if so do you feel like most (including myself) that we are so far out of the loop that we take no responsibility for the death of the animals we eat. I am thinking it would be a good thing if we got back in touch with that part of ourselves that at one time needed to hunt to survive. The wildness of the animal is relative to me, and we need to have respect for the impact we make on the earth and it's inhabitants.

This whale hunting thing was such an imperfect re-inactment of what these people's ancestors did that it is hard for us to take it seriously. Towing the canoe out to sea and towing the whale back in by power boat, then finally shooting it with a rifle, if I'm not mistaken don't seem like they were in the script 100 years ago. Anyway I believe they have the right by treaty and heritage and I doubt they will have a significant impact on whale population.
